Updates¶
AM Landmark tells you when a new release is out, shows you what changed, and takes you to the download. It never changes your install by itself.
How you find out¶
Once a day, shortly after you open the window, AM Landmark asks the update server whether there is a newer release. The check runs in the background, so Maya keeps working while it happens.
- A new release: the update window opens on its own.
- Nothing new, or no connection: nothing happens at all.
To check right now, open Settings → About → Check for Updates.
The update window¶
It lists what changed in every release since yours, not just the newest one.
| Button | Does |
|---|---|
| Download | Opens the download page in your browser. |
| Skip | Stops reminding you about this version. A newer one still notifies you. |
| Later | Reminds you again tomorrow. |
| Check again | Asks the server again now. |
A release marked important opens the window even if you skipped it or chose Later, so that flag stays rare.
| Option | Does |
|---|---|
| Automatically check for updates | On by default. Off means AM Landmark only reaches the network when you ask it to. |
| Channel | Stable offers finished releases only. Beta adds prereleases, and you still get every stable release. |
Installing the update¶
Download the release, unzip it, and drag Drag_me_into_maya_for_install.py into
a Maya viewport. See Install → Updating.
What is sent¶
Each check sends the tool's name and version, the channel, your Maya version, your operating system, and a random install id. That id is not derived from your machine or from you; it only stops two checks from one install being counted as two installs. To stop sending it, run:
from Am_landmark.core import update_client
update_client.register_tool("am_landmark", "", "AM Landmark")
update_client.set_send_stats(False)
Where the settings live¶
<Documents>/maya/Am_landmark/updates.json. It is outside the install, so a skipped
version is still remembered after you reinstall. Reset Preferences deletes it.
Troubleshooting¶
"Could not reach the update server": almost always a firewall, a proxy or no connection. Your install is fine. If an earlier check succeeded, the window shows that answer and says it came from the last check.
"Not listed on the update server yet": the server answered but has no entry for AM Landmark, so there is nothing to compare your version against.
