Install

One installer, about 17 MB. It needs nothing else on the PC — no runtime to download, no graphics card requirement.

What you need

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • A mouse, or a pen tablet / pen display. A pen gives you real pressure and tilt — see Pens and tablets below.
  • The installer, Am_sketch-Setup-1.0.0.exe, from the email you received when you bought Am_sketch.

1. Run the installer

Double-click Am_sketch-Setup-1.0.0.exe.

Windows SmartScreen shows this for installers it has not seen many times yet. Click More info, check that the app is Am_sketch-Setup-1.0.0.exe, then click Run anyway.

For everyone, or just for you

Setup first asks whether to install for all users of the PC — which needs an administrator's permission — or only for me, which does not. Either works; choose only for me on a computer where you are not an administrator.

The default folder is Program Files\Am_sketch. You can change it, but there is no need to.

Extra tasks

Option Default What it does
Create a desktop shortcut off An Am_sketch icon on the desktop. The Start menu entry is always created.
Start Am_sketch when I sign in to Windows off Starts Am_sketch for you every time you sign in, so the hotkeys are ready. It applies to the Windows account that ran Setup.

Teaching every day? Tick Start Am_sketch when I sign in.

Am_sketch has no setting of its own for this — the installer's option is the switch. To turn it off later, use Settings → Apps → Startup in Windows, or uninstall and install again with the box unticked.

2. Finish and launch

When Setup is done it offers to start Am_sketch. Leave it ticked and press Finish.

The first time, Am_sketch opens in trial mode: the ring appears, but only its Help and Close slots work, and the Help window opens on its Licensing page. That is your cue to activate your licence.

Pens and tablets

Am_sketch reads pens through Windows Ink — the same pen input Windows' own apps use. Surface pens, pen displays and most graphics tablets work.

  • Wacom and other tablets: make sure Windows Ink is switched on for the tablet in its own driver settings. Am_sketch does not use the older WinTab interface.
  • Pressure drives size, opacity and flow; tilt can widen the stroke. Both are set per brush — see Brush settings.
  • The eraser end of a pen and the barrel buttons have no special meaning: the eraser end draws with the current tool. Use X to swap between brush and eraser instead.
  • Touch: drawing with a finger on a touch screen is not supported.

Without a pen, Am_sketch gives the mouse a gentle simulated pressure, so pressure-sensitive brushes still taper naturally.

Upgrading

Run the newer installer over the old one — Setup offers to close a running Am_sketch first. Your settings, brushes and licence are kept.

Uninstalling

  1. Quit Am_sketch: right-click its tray icon → Quit.
  2. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps in Windows, find Am_sketch, and choose Uninstall.

The uninstaller removes the program, its shortcuts and the start when I sign in entry. It deliberately keeps Documents\Am_sketch — your settings, your brushes and your imported licence — so a reinstall picks up where you left off. Delete that folder yourself if you want everything gone.
