Files and folders

Everything Am_sketch keeps about you lives in one folder: Documents\Am_sketch. Uninstalling leaves it alone.

Documents\Am_sketch\
├── preferences.json every setting: shortcuts, colours, palettes, tools,
│ screens, update choices, where your licence is
├── license\
│ └── active.lic your imported licence
├── presets\
│ ├── custom\ brushes you made
│ ├── saved\ your saved changes to existing brushes
│ └── textures\ tips made with Import texture...
└── brushes\
├── tips\ your own tip images
└── grains\ your own paper grains

The program itself is in Program Files\Am_sketch (or AppData\Local\Programs\Am_sketch if you installed it only for me), with the shipped brushes in its brushes folder.

What is not stored

  • Your drawings. They live on screen until you clear them or quit; nothing is written to disk. Capture what you want to keep.
  • Screenshots go wherever you save them — Pictures, by default — or to the clipboard.
  • Logs. The app you bought writes none.

Backing up, moving to a new PC

Copy the whole Documents\Am_sketch folder. On the new PC, install Am_sketch, put the folder back in Documents, and start Am_sketch. If your Documents folder is in a different place on the new PC, import your licence once more with Help → Licensing → Import license... — license\active.lic is the file.

If your Documents folder syncs with OneDrive, Documents\Am_sketch — your licence copy included — syncs with it.

Starting afresh

Quit Am_sketch, then:

To reset Delete
Every setting preferences.json — your licence must then be imported again
One brush's saved changes its file in presets\saved\
A brush you made its file in presets\custom\ (or Remove brush in the app)
Everything the whole Documents\Am_sketch folder

Start Am_sketch again and it rebuilds what is missing with its defaults. For shortcuts alone, Restore Defaults in Preferences → Shortcuts is gentler.
