Undo, clear and fading¶
Undo and redo¶
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+Shift+Z | Undo |
| Ctrl+Shift+Y | Redo |
Both work from any program while Am_sketch is running. Undo goes back as far as the session does — there is no limit — and doing something new after an undo clears what you could have redone.
Undo covers strokes, shapes and text (adding and editing), erasing, clearing, moving and transforming, deleting, duplicating, pasting, filling and recolouring.
Undo does not cover layer changes (adding, deleting, renaming, hiding, opacity), the trace paper, or settings.
Why Ctrl + Shift + Z and not Ctrl + Z?
Am_sketch's keys work in every program, so they must not take over the keys those programs use. Ctrl+Z stays your slide editor's or your browser's. You can choose other keys in Preferences.
Clear everything¶
The Delete slot — the bin, lower right on the ring — or Ctrl+Shift+X removes every stroke, shape and text on every layer at once, without asking. It is one undo step, so Ctrl+Shift+Z brings it all back.
Clearing leaves the layers themselves, the trace paper and the measuring guide in place.
Strokes that fade¶
Preferences → General → Drawing → Strokes fade after sets a time from 1 to 60 seconds (or Off, the default). With it on, every stroke, shape and text stays on screen for that long, then fades out over four seconds and is gone.
For live demonstrations
Set 5 – 10 seconds when you are pointing things out on a live screen — software, a game, a video. Circle, underline, keep talking: the screen clears itself, and you never stop to wipe it.
Hide without clearing¶
- Ctrl+Shift+D hides everything and brings it back — see Drawing and pass-through.
- Double-clicking the ring's centre tucks the toolbar away and hides your drawings with it.
