Animating¶
Somebody handed you a picker. This section is everything you need and nothing you don't — no drawing tools, no layout theory.
If you only ever read one page here, read Rigs and namespaces. It is the single thing that makes a working picker look broken.
-
Clicking, the selection modifiers, sliders and toggles, and how the picker stays in step with your Maya selection.
-
Why one picker drives every copy of a character, and how to point it at the right one when it does not.
-
Layers, panels and the character portrait — turning off the parts of a picker that are in your way.
-
Save a viewport angle to a key and get back to it without touching the viewport.
What you actually need to know¶
Click a shape, its controls get selected. Modifiers behave the way Maya's do — Shift toggles, Ctrl removes, Ctrl+Shift adds.
You cannot break it. Anim mode has no tools that change the layout. Moving, deleting and renaming are all behind Edit mode. Click as freely as you like.
Nothing selects? It is almost certainly the namespace. The picker is looking
for L_hand_ctrl and your shot has kamal:L_hand_ctrl.
One dialog fixes it.
Right-click gives you four things: Set Namespace, Layers, Panels, and the character portrait toggle. Always those four, on every picker, in the same places.
